Gem mining has played a vital role into shaping the history of the mountains of North Carolina. Today, you too can share in that experience in our clean, safe, family friendly environment. At Foggy Mountain Gem Mine we do all the hard work for you. Simply purchase a bucket filled with gemstone ore from local and non-local mines and sift the material in our covered flume area. Over forty different minerals may be found at our mine, and gemstone quality ore is guaranteed in every bucket. Emeralds, sapphires, rubies, aquamarine, tourmaline, garnet, amethyst, citrine, smoky quartz, topaz, and many others are waiting to be discovered! We supply all of the necessary equipment and provide assistance throughout the entire process to ensure that you find all of your precious stones. Fun for kids of all ages! We are handicap accessible and provide assistance to those with special needs.

After you find all of your precious gem rough, one of our experienced staff members will sort your rough for you and select the best pieces for cutting. You may then choose to have your stones cut and polished to create a piece of custom art that you may treasure for a lifetime. We cut each stone carefully to ensure the largest, most beautiful, and most valuable stone possible. We can cut large stones for pendants, or matching stones for earrings. With over twenty years of experience in the industry, you can count on one of our lapidary artists to bring your stones to life!

FROM ATLANTA, GA
Take I-85 North from Atlanta for 218 miles to EXIT 17/US HWY-321 N towards Dallas/Gastonia/Lincolnton. Follow US HWY-321 N for 77 miles. Arrive in Boone. Take a left onto US HWY 105 South. Follow for approximately 3.5 miles. We are located 1 mile past the third stoplight on the right hand side of the road.

FROM RICHMOND, VA
Take I-95 South for 22.5 miles to Exit 51, I-85 South towards Durham. Follow I-85 South for 171.0 miles. Keep right and take I-40 Exit 131 towards Greensboro for 38.4 miles. Merge onto US-HWY 421 N via Exit 188 towards Yadkinville/Wilkesboro. Continue on US-HWY 421 N for 80.8 miles to Boone. Take a left onto US-HWY 105 EXT and go straight through 5 stoplights, approximately 4.2 miles. After the last stoplight, we are approximately 1 mile on the right hand side of the road.

FROM COLUMBIA, SC
Take I-77 North from Columbia for 72.7 miles. Take the I-485 E/Exit 1 for approximately 1.3 miles. Merge onto I-485 W by the exit on the LEFT. Follow for 9.5 miles to exit 10/ I-85 South towards Spartanburg/Greensboro. Take the I-485 North exit on the LEFT. Follow for appx 1 mile and merge onto I-85 South. Follow for 12.6 miles to US HWY 321N, Exit 17/Dallas/Lincolnton. Follow US HWY 321N for 70.1 miles to Boone. Take a left onto US HWY 105 South. Follow for 3.4 miles. We are located on the right hand side of the road, after the third stoplight.

FROM KNOXVILLE, TN
Take I-40 East from Knoxville for 32.2 miles. merge onto I-81 N by exit 421 on the LEFT towards Bristol. Follow I-81 N for 56.6 miles. Merge onto I-26E/I-19S Exit 57A towards Asheville/Johnson City. Follow I-26E/I-19S for 15.5 miles to HWY 321 N, exit 24 towards Elizabethton. Follow for 8.7 miles and then merge onto US 321S/ US 19-E. Follow US 321 South for 33.3 miles. Turn RIGHT onto HWY 421/US 321 and follow for 3.5 miles. Turn RIGHT onto US 105 Bypass. Go to end of bypass and take a left onto US HWY 105 South. We are located approximately 1 mile on the right hand side of the road.
